Prabhupad's ORIGINAL UNEDITED Srimad Bhagavad Gita As it is

How Many Changes in the 1983 Revised Edition of Bhagavad Gita ?
Why is the Editor's name not on the cover of the book?

** ''The Editor changed the wording in 77% of the verses… 541 verses were changed out of 700 total.
In 21 verses (3%), only the spelling, punctuation or capitalization was changed, and the words were left intact. In 520 verses (74%), words were removed, rearranged or changed…''

How Many Changes in the 1983 Revised Edition of Bhagavad Gita ?
Why is the Editor's name not on the cover of the book?
These are the two questions devotees reading the Revised Edition, commissioned by the Zonal Acaryas and Published by BBTi in 1983, might want to ask themelves.
The answer to the first question is :
The Editor changed the wording in 77% of the verses… 541 verses were changed out of 700 total.
In 21 verses (3%), only the spelling, punctuation or capitalization was changed, and the words were left intact. In 520 verses (74%), words were removed, rearranged or changed…
What might be significant is that the singular Guru was changed to Gurus, which clearly allows for the remarkable number of Acaryas who have emerged in the years since Srila Prabhupada left the planet…
Example:
Bhagavad-Gita 4.34 (new version by Jayadvaita Swami):
Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized **souls** can impart knowledge unto you because **they** have seen the truth.
Note: In the Purport, the Editor has added a text which was not in the original.
"Nor by independent study of books of knowledge can one progress in spiritual life."
PURPORT Bg 4.34 (new version by Jayadvaita Swami)
The Bhagavatam (6.3.19) says dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam: the path of religion is directly enunciated by the Lord. Therefore, mental speculation or dry arguments cannot help lead one to the right path. **Nor by independent study of books of knowledge can one progress in spiritual life.** One has to approach a bona fide spiritual master to receive the knowledge.
Bg 4.34 (Srila Prabhupada's Original version):
Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized **soul**can impart knowledge unto you because **he** has seen the truth.
PURPORT
The Bhagavatam (6.3.19) says, dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam--the path of religion is directly enunciated by the Lord. Therefore, mental speculation or dry arguments cannot help one progress in spiritual life. One has to approach a bona fide spiritual master to receive the knowledge.
The changes made are significant because they change the meaning of the text.
The answer to the second question is:
According to BBTi copyright lawyer Adam Bernstein..
"Jayadvaita Swami's humility has prevented him from taking any credit for the Revision."
Added to this is the feeling that 'We do not care about puffed up academics, so why follow the standard protocol of placing the Editor's name on a posthumously revised book?"
In other words who cares if the book is accepted at Universities?
Ironically, the Original Edition is still accepted at Universities..because it is the genuine article!
To end this short post a word from Her Grace Govinda Dasi who witnessed editorial meetings where Srila Prabhupada and Prof Wheeler spent many hours together:
"It is true, that most of Prabhupada’s disciples prefer the original books…. Nevertheless, the editing was done, and now, some devotees prefer the revised edition. So this choice will continue to be a matter of preference. This issue really cannot be corrected…"
We have two distinctly different books and the Editor's name must appear on the Revised Edition..
Thank You…Hare Krsna
